Crystal growth is usually noticeable only a few hours after the solution is mixed, with decent growth happening overnight. Crystals may fully grow as quickly as three or four days, but some conditions, such as cooler temperatures and high humidity, may slow the growth time to two weeks.
This is very important: Do not disturb the solution as it grows, the crystal grows because the particles settle out of the supersaturated solution. Disturbing the growing solution can easily destroy any chance of having a nice looking crystal form.
Generally, users tend to be happy with their crystalline results but some people report crystals just not growing well. This could be due to a variety of factors: misunderstanding the directions, poor water quality, not suitable temperature and humidity levels of the home or the solution was disturbed during the growth.
If you want amazing crystals as a result of your experiment then concentrate the "seed" stuff into a small pile in the center of the growing tub. This way you'll increase the probabilities of achieving that spiky, dramatic, crystal cluster that you want. Do not simply spread the stuff evenly across the little tub, because possibly you'll end up with a film of little crystals all across the bottom and sides of the container.
